AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific has added a non-conference softball doubleheader at home against Hope International to its schedule, hosting the Royals at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at the Cougar Softball Complex.
This weekend, Azusa Pacific competes in the Tournament of Champions presented by the Turlock Convention & Visitors Bureau before returning home next week to host the Royals. All five of the Cougars’ tournament opponents this weekend are NCAA Division II programs who compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), including Western Oregon and Central Washington programs which received votes in this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 poll. The Cougars won three of five games in the Tournament of Champions last year, and they will enter this weekend’s series with a 27-12 overall record.
Hope International competes in the Golden State Athletic Conference, and the Royals are currently 12-20 overall and 2-10 in conference play. The Cougars are 39-8 all-time against Hope International and won all five meetings with the Royals during the 2012 season, which was Azusa Pacific’s last season of GSAC membership before joining NCAA Division II’s Pacific West Conference.
