TROUTVILLE, Va. --Azusa Pacific’s opening game at the 2014 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Softball National Championship was called for rain with the Cougars trailing defending NCCAA champion Union University in the second inning, 4-0.
The tournament schedule had already been adjusted to an earlier Thursday start in advance of the expected weather, and the first three games on the schedule were completed while the next three were all halted within the first two innings of play.
With rain predicted for the area through Thursday afternoon and overnight, the double-elimination tournament has been tentatively rescheduled with Azusa Pacific and Union set to resume play Friday at 12 p.m. Eastern time. The winner of that game continues into the winner’s bracket at 4 p.m., while the loser drops into a 4 p.m. elimination game against Central Baptist (Arkansas).
Confirmation for Friday’s noon start will be announced on the tournament home page at approximately 8 a.m. Eastern time, after Botetourt Sports Complex officials have had a chance to assess the field conditions.
