April Reed

A former 2-sport Cougar standout, April Reed is now in her 11th year as Azusa Pacific's head athletic trainer.
Reed returned to her alma mater in 1999 after serving a year as the head athletic trainer at the California Institute of Technology. Previously, she served 3 years as an assistant and intern at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.
Upon her return, she quickly went to work in building Azusa Pacific's sports medicine program into one of the premier operations in the NAIA. She helped design and develop the layout of the Felix Event Center athletic training room, which opened in 2001, while also putting together the redesign of the Cougar Stadium athletic training room. In addition, she created a comprehensive policy and procedure manual, the first of its kind for Azusa Pacific athletics, and today the manual is used as a model for other NAIA institutions.
Among her first accomplishments as Azusa Pacific's head athletic trainer, she assembled a local network of orthopedic sports medicine, physical therapy and other medical specialists (dental, ENT, etc.) that serve Azusa Pacific's entire athletics program. She established a graduate assistant program for athletic training and developed a larger staff that today offers exclusive coverage of in-season teams.
Reed oversees the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. She has served as the lead athletic trainer for Cougar football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer and softball.
A member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association, Reed serves on numerous national committees, and as the past president she is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the NAIA Athletic Trainers Association. She is also a member of the College Sports Medicine Foundation Advisory Board, and serves as the NAIA representative for the NATA's College and University Athletic Trainer's Committee, and is the regional representative for the NAIA Athletic Trainers Association as well as the NATA's College and University Athletic Trainers Committee.
On the Azusa Pacific campus, Reed serves as the student life liaison for the Workplace Safety Committee and as a medical liaison for the Incident Command Team.
Probably the finest goal keeper in Azusa Pacific history, Reed lettered 4 years as a student-athlete in women's soccer, setting records for most career shutouts (25) and saves (475) along with the single season record for most saves (169).
Reed also lettered 4 seasons in softball and in 1995 she became the first Azusa Pacific athlete to earn All-Golden State Athletic Conference first-team recognition in soccer and softball.
For her outstanding athletic skills and accomplishments, she will be inducted into the Azusa Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame during ceremonies Oct. 24, 2009.
A former NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete, Reed graduated from Azusa Pacific with a bachelor's degree in 1995. She earned her master's degree in sports medicine from Cal State Long Beach in 1998.
Reed prepped at Rowland High School in Rowland Hts., Calif. She currently resides in La Verne, Calif.
