AZUSA, Calif. -- The U.S. Sports Academy and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics will officially present Azusa Pacific University with the 2007-08 Directors’ Cup during the Directors’ Cup Championship Dinner Presentation sponsored by Outback Steakhouse, Sunday, Nov. 16, at 5 p.m. in the Felix Event Center.
The Directors Cup is an annual award given to the top intercollegiate athletics program in the nation. Azusa Pacific is receiving its fourth consecutive Directors’ Cup. Former UCLA basketball coach and U.S. Sports Academy trustee Gary Cunningham will present the Cup to the Azusa Pacific student-athletes of the 2007-08 year.
In addition, the evening’s ceremonies will also include the U.S. Sports Academy will presenting Azusa Pacific Director of Athletics Bill Odell the Distinguished Service Award for establishing Azusa Pacific as one of the premier collegiate athletic program both as a basketball coach and athletics director.
Azusa Pacific alum Bryan Clay, who recently won the gold medal in the decathlon at the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, will be the keynote speaker for the evening. He will also receive the U.S. Sports Academy’s Jim Thorpe All-Around Athlete Award for 2008.
