AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific had 153 student-athletes named to the 2012-13 Pacific West Conference Academic All-Conference Team, which is an annual award during the summer honoring student-athletes in conference-sponsored sports who maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher. All student-athletes meeting the minimum requirements are named to the team, which includes all students, including redshirts, who are eligible for competition.
“I’m obviously pleased with the academic performance this award represents for Azusa Pacific’s student-athletes,” Director of Athletics Gary Pine said. “The type of student-athletes who choose Azusa Pacific are prepared to succeed both on and off the court, and it’s my hope that this type of success in the classroom leads not only to further success, but that it also helps motivate even more of our student-athletes to be represented on this list.”
Azusa Pacific was represented on the list by at least six student-athletes for every conference sport in which it participates. Seven Cougar teams produced 11 or more honorees, including 20 selections each from women’s soccer and women’s track & field and another 19 from men’s track & field.
Only one other PacWest school produced more Academic All-Conference representatives than Azusa Pacific, and it was Grand Canyon University, which is the only school in the 14-member PacWest to sponsor teams in every conference sport.
