AZUSA, Calif. – For the first time in school history, Azusa Pacific men’s and women’s basketball teams have advanced to the NAIA “Sweet 16” in the same year. By virtue of the men’s 88-72 victory over Houston Baptist on Wednesday and the women’s 93-74 triumph over Brewton-Parker (Ga.) today, the Cougars move into the second round of their respective NAIA championship tournaments.
Both teams continue play on Friday (March 18). The women, who are now 24-10 on the season, take on Oklahoma City (29-6) at 10:30 a.m. (PST) in the Oman Arena of Jackson, Tenn. Earlier this year, the Cougars knocked off OCU, 88-87, in Azusa on an Alyssa Ferdaszewski last-second shot.
The Cougar men, currently 26-9, will lock horns with Oklahoma Christian (27-6) at 4:15 p.m. (PST) in Kansas City’s famed Memorial Auditorium.
