AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific senior forward Ian Leibbrandt has been named NAIA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 4, 2005, as announced today by the NAIA.
Leibbrandt’s spectacular play included 6 goals and 3 assists over a 3-game span during which the No. 5-ranked Cougars went undefeated. His 2 goals led the Cougars over then No. 14-ranked Bethel (Ind.), 4-1. Leibbrandt then recorded 4 goals and 3 assists in wins over the University of Illinois-Springfield (8-0) and then No. 7-ranked Judson (Ill.) (7-1). He is now sixth on the Cougars’ all-time scoring list with 95 career points.
Leibbrandt was also named the GSAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week and the Region II Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for his efforts.
“He is confident in his game right now,” said head coach Phil Wolf. “He understands what he does well. He’s running at people which is tough for the other team to deal with. Hopefully, he can keep it up.”
Azusa Pacific (3-0) continues its season this afternoon at 4 p.m. when it travels to Pomona-Pitzer. The Cougars make their home debut on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. at the Azusa Square versus Warner Pacific University.
