MALIBU, Calif.-- On the first day of the Malibu Invitational, hosted by Pepperdine, the Azusa Pacific women’s swimming and diving team grabbed four top-five finishes in the distance portion of the meet. Azusa Pacific, which is competing in its first team meet of the year, will continue with the middle distance, and sprint segments of the meet on Saturday morning.

Freshman Sydney Bello recorded the Cougars’ top finish of the day, placing in third in the 500 free with a mark of 5:23.17, less than four seconds out of first place. Mikaela Fuller posted an eighth place time of 5:30.89, while Brooke Miller (5:31.80) and Heidi Zuniga took ninth and 10th respectively.

Zuniga nabbed Azusa Pacific’s top finish in the 1650 free, touching at 18:58.00 for fifth place, and Anna Eckberg registered a time of 20:22.75 to place sixth.

In the 400 IM Lauren Turner clocked in at 4:59.21 to take fourth, and Sydney Escalante posted a time of 5:01.30 for fifth.

April Fautsch tabbed a sixth place score in the 3-meter board (166.45), before placing seventh in the 1-meter board with a score of 140.80. Azusa Pacific will continue the meet tomorrow, where it will compete in 14 events beginning at 10 a.m.
