Narrow Defeat For Cougar Men

Sat., Feb. 3, 2007

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- After dropping all 3 doubles matches to UC San Diego, the fate of Azusa Pacific’s match result rested with sophomore Patrick Kur, who had worked to match point in his No. 2 singles contest with Bijan Moallemi. However, Moallemi came back to win the second set, 7-6, then sealed the match with a 6-2 result in the third set. The loss handed the NAIA defending runner-up Cougars their first loss of the 2007 campaign.

Senior David Goodman, freshman Matthijs Bolsius and junior Art Fatkhiev each pulled off 3-set wins in singles play, and freshman Mathias Weber won in straight sets to give Azusa Pacific 4 of the 5 points in singles play as Kur’s match weighed in the balance.

Azusa Pacific returns to action for the first of 3 straight home matches against NCAA Div. III competition, beginning with a 2:30 p.m. matchup with Chapman Thurs., Feb. 8, at the Cougars’ home courts located at Citrus College in Glendora.
