Cougar Men Post 8-1 Win Over L-C State

GLENDORA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 2-ranked Azusa Pacific extended its winning streak to 14 matches after an 8-1 victory over No. 18-ranked Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) Wednesday afternoon at Citrus College.

Freshman Matthijs Bolsius’ straight-set shutout at No. 4 singles highlighted the Cougar victory, and Bolsius was also on the winning end of the largest doubles victory for Azusa Pacific, teaming with David Goodman for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 1 doubles, Patrick Kur and Mathias Weber posted an 8-3 win, then each won in straight sets in singles play, as well. Kur was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles, and Weber notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles. Ronald Chow was the fourth Cougar to record wins in singles and doubles, scoring a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles after teaming with Robby Dabbs for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles that helped complete the Azusa Pacific doubles sweep.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 16-1 on the season, while Lewis-Clark State drops to 7-5 overall. The Cougars host a pair of matches Saturday, March 24, first taking on Biola at 9 a.m. in GSAC action, followed by a non-conference matchup with Hawaii Pacific at 2 p.m. at Citrus College.
