GLENDORA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 2-ranked Azusa Pacific took on a pair of opponents Saturday afternoon, and the Cougars met the challenge by extending a pair of winning streaks with a 9-0 morning win over Biola followed by a 7-2 afternoon victory over Hawaii Pacific Saturday at Citrus College.

In the victory over Biola, which extended the Cougars’ GSAC winning streak to 51 matches, freshman Eric Isaacson posted a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles after collecting an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles with John Goodrich. All 6 Cougars posted straight-set victories in singles play, and the doubles tandems combined for a 24-3 margin in doubles play.

In the afternoon’s match against Hawaii Pacific, Chow teamed with Art Fatkhiev for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles, then both picked up straight-sets singles victories. Chow was Azusa Pacific’s only player to participate in both of the day’s matches, and he finished a perfect 4-0 with 2 wins apiece in singles and doubles.

David Goodman and Matthijs Bolsius combined for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, then each earned points for singles wins, as well. The only points lost all day by Azusa Pacific came on third-set super-tiebreakers at No. 2 and 3 singles.

With the wins, Azusa Pacific improves to 18-1 overall and 7-0 in GSAC play with just 1 conference match remaining. Biola drops to 1-11 overall, 0-4 in GSAC, while Hawaii Pacific drops to 8-2 on the season. The Cougars host a pair of early-week non-conference matches, with Middlebury (Vt.) visiting on Monday, March 26, followed by a Tuesday, March 27 visit from Colby (Maine). Both matches are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Citrus College in Glendora.
