SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- A day after a pair of service breaks led to a come-from-behind doubles victory, Azusa Pacific’s No. 2 doubles tandem David Goodman and Matthijs Bolsius needed an 8-6 tiebreaker to post a 9-8 win and give the NAIA’s No. 2-ranked Cougars 2 of the 3 doubles points on the way to a 5-1 victory over No. 5-ranked Fresno Pacific at the NAIA Region II Men’s Tennis Championship Friday morning at Point Loma Nazarene.

Bolsius also collected 1 of Azusa Pacific’s 3 singles points with the only 2-set singles match, posting a 6-1, 6-1 win over Fresno Pacific’s Roberto Bianco at No. 4 singles. Patrick Kur and Robby Dabbs joined Bolsius in victory in singles play with a pair of 3-set wins, while the remaining 3 singles contests were in their third sets, as well, when the Cougars clinched the victory.

Kur, a straight-sets winner in yesterday’s semifinals, came back from an opening-set shutout, posting an 0-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Anthony Zafiris at No. 2 singles. Dabbs defeated Victory Medina at No. 6 singles by a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 tally, and he also teamed with Ronald Chow for the tandem’s second straight doubles win, an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 24-3 on the season and receives the region’s automatic bid to the 56th Annual NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship tournament, held May 14-18 in Mobile, Ala.
