GLENDORA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific won 36 of 38 games contested in the top 3 singles positions, cruising to a 9-0 win over Occidental Friday afternoon at Citrus College.

Sophomore Matthijs Bolsius and junior Patrick Kur each posted 6-1, 6-0 victories in the top 2 singles spots, also claiming an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Mathias Weber registered a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

At No. 3 doubles, sophomore John Phillips and freshman Daniel Moore rallied from a 6-5 deficit, taking the final 3 games in the 8-6 win that finished off the Cougars’ doubles sweep.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 2-0 on the season, while Occidental drops to 0-2. The Cougars host NCAA Division II’s No. 6-ranked UC San Diego Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at the Citrus College tennis courts.
