AZUSA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 1-ranked and defending NAIA runner-up Azusa Pacific flexed its top-ranked muscle and cruised past No. 10 Point Loma Nazarene in convincing fashion, 9-0, Thursday in Azusa.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 3-1 overall, 2-0 GSAC. It is their third straight win since falling to UCLA in the season-opener. Point Loma Nazarene falls to 2-2, 0-1.

The Cougars cruised at No. 1 and 2 doubles, and although the No. 3 doubles team of Gordon Hong and David Goodman struggled, they eventually pulled out a 9-8 (7-1) win over Jonathon Bowman and Sean Sand to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

There, the Cougars made quick work of the Sea Lions. Philipp Wulf gave Sam Fletcher a run at No. 1, but Fletcher pulled out a come-from-behind win (5-7, 6-3, 6-4). The other 5 matches weren’t even close as the Cougars pulled out straight set wins in all the other matches.
