AZUSA, Calif. -- Less than 24 hours after its basketball team punched its ticket to the NCAA basketball tournament, Gonzaga’s men’s tennis team had its bubble burst by the NAIA’s No. 1-ranked Azusa Pacific.

The Cougars swept through doubles’ play and then cruised through singles’ action to get a 9-0 win over the NCAA Division I Bulldogs Tuesday in Azusa.

It is the Cougars’ eighth straight win as they move to 8-1 overall. Gonzaga falls to 2-8.

The Cougars easily rolled to identical 8-3 wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. Gonzaga’s No. 3 team of Brett Womack and Marco Pineda made Gordon Hong and David Goodman work before falling 9-8. Five of the 6 singles’ matches were won in straight sets, including Sam Fletcher over Dru Ernst 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1.
