AZUSA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 1-ranked Azusa Pacific continued its winning ways and remained perfect in GSAC play, escaping with a 6-3 win at Westmont Saturday.

The Cougars improve to 11-1 overall, 5-0 GSAC. Westmont, which has dropped 4 of its past 5, falls to 6-5, 1-2.

Azusa Pacific played the match without its regular starters at No. 5 (Gordon Hong) and No. 6 (Tom Jelsma), both of whom were out with injuries. But, the Cougars did enough at the top half of their line-up to get the win.

Sam Fletcher and Adam Davidson bounced back from their first loss of the season and downed Burke Marold and Bryn Mercado, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. Boris Bakalov and Tom Jelsma downed J.B. Schiller and Kyle Godfrey, 8-3, at No. 2, and the Cougars took a 2-1 lead after doubles. Then, in singles’ play, the Cougars took 4 of 6 matches, all of the victories coming at Nos. 1-4.
