AZUSA, Calif. -- In about as dominating of a performance as it can get in singles’ play, the NAIA’s No. 1-ranked Azusa Pacific swept No. 16 Lewis-Clark St. (Idaho), 9-0, Wednesday in Azusa.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 12-1 overall. The Warriors fall to 8-5.

After sweeping 3 points in doubles’ play, squeaking out 2 of them at Nos. 1 (8-6) and 2 (9-8), the Cougars turned up the heat in singles’ play. The Cougars won all 6, 5 of them in convincing straight sets, and even after Alex Muresan fell behind 1-0 at No. 6, he rebounding in dominating fashion to take the next 2 sets, 6-0, 6-1.

Even more impressively, the Cougars did it all without No. 2 Boris Bakalov, one of the top players in the NAIA. Bakalov will miss at least the next week, if not more, while nursing an injury.
