AZUSA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 1-ranked Azusa Pacific took 2 of 3 doubles’ matches but then faltered in singles’ play as NCAA Division II Drury (Mo.) came-from-behind to steal a 6-3 win from the Cougars Friday in Azusa.

With the loss, the Cougars fall to 12-3 overall. It is the first time they have lost back-to-back matches since the beginning of the 2002-03 season when they lost the first 2 matches of the year to Loyola Marymount and Northern Arizona. The Panthers improve to 8-2.

The loss also snaps the Cougars’ 29-match home winning streak. It is the Cougars’ first loss at home since March 10, 2003, when they dropped a 5-4 match to Montana St.

The Cougars won at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to jump out to a 2-1 lead. Then when Sam Fletcher downed Matias Oddone, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, it appeared the Cougars had control of the match.

However, the Panthers stormed back by taking each of the final 5 matches, 4 of them in straight sets, to clinch the win.
