AZUSA, Calif. -- For the second time in a week, the NAIA’s No. 1-ranked Azusa Pacific bounced back from an early deficit, this time to defeat NCAA Division III-power Redlands, 7-2, Saturday.

The win is the Cougars’ third in a row and moves them to 15-3 overall. Redlands, which has won 15 NCAA Division III national titles, falls to 14-4.

The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division III, took a quick 2-1 lead after doubles’ action, winning close matches at No. 2 (9-8) and No. 3 (8-6). Sam Fletcher and Adam Davidson combined at No. 1 to down Sean Dolan and Chandler Lutz, 8-3, for the Cougars’ point.

The Cougars then quickly rebounded and swept all 6 singles’ matches, 5 of them in straight sets.

"This was a tough match against a solid team," said Azusa Pacific head coach Mark Bohren. "For us to beat these guys without Boris (Bakalov) playing singles is big."
