SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 1-ranked Azusa Pacific moved within one win of its fourth straight GSAC title Thursday with a 9-0 win over GSAC-rival Westmont.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 16-3 overall, 6-0 GSAC. The win is the Cougars fourth in a row and sets up Friday’s showdown with Vanguard where a win will give the Cougars the GSAC title outright. The Cougars currently lead the Lions by one game with 2 to go.

Westmont falls to 9-9, 2-5.

The Cougars were rarely challenged in today’s match. They easily swept through all 3 doubles’ matches, winning each of them by identical 8-1 scores. Then in singles’ play, the Cougars swept all 6 matches in straight sets, including Sam Fletcher at No. 1 and Gordon Hong at No. 4 winning their respective matches by decisive 6-0, 6-0 scores.
