AZUSA, Calif. -- With the rain reeking havoc on the tennis schedule Azusa Pacific had to get a little creative to get its match against College of Santa Fe played.

The Cougars were glad they did.

Brushing off consecutive mediocre showings earlier in the week, Azusa Pacific defeated College of Santa Fe, 7-2, in a rematch of last season’s NAIA Championship final.

“This week we have come out flat and not competed well but today we came out ready to play and it made a big difference,” said head coach Mark Bohren. “Today was critical because of our loss to Emory. It was important to get the win against a very good team.”

Originally Azusa Pacific had been slated to play Point Loma Nazarene but, due to weather conditions, the dual match was cancelled. That allowed the Cougars and Santa Fe to renew acquaintances a day after their original match had been washed out.

With the win the Cougars improve to an impressive 13-1.
