AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific took an early lead with wins in each of the 3 doubles matches and cruised to an 8-1 non-conference win over the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
The NAIA’s top-ranked Cougars dominated the Vulcans in early action easily handling 2 of the 3 doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles team of Boris Bakalov and Tom Jelsma edged Christian Schonau and Lars Melskens, 8-6, to get Azusa Pacific off and running.
Patrick Kur and Tom Jelsma dominated their singles matches as the Cougars won their fifth straight match.
Azusa Pacific moved its record to 17-1 and next up is Wofford (S.C.) on Tuesday.
