Cougars Bounce Back With 9-0 Win

GLENDORA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 6-ranked Azusa Pacific bounced back from Monday’s disappointing 7-2 defeat to No. 2-ranked Fresno Pacific with a resounding 9-0 win over Westmont.

After sweeping doubles by a combined 24-7, the Cougars went right to work in singles, winning all but 1 set by at least 4 games. Jennifer Dao, who teamed with Kim Tran at No. 2 doubles for an 8-0 win, posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Lorelai Belindean at No. 1 singles. Tran was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Jennie Dunn at No. 3 singles, while Peggy Bell and Katy Jelsma each surrendered just 1 game in 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in GSAC play, while Westmont drops to 1-4 overall, 0-3 in GSAC. The Cougars remain home for a 2:30 p.m. Tuesday matchup with Hope International at Azusa Pacific’s home courts located at Citrus College in Glendora.
