GLENDORA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 3-ranked Azusa Pacific earned its fifth victory of the season over opponents currently ranked in the NAIA Top 25, posting an 8-1 victory over No. 16-ranked Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) Wednesday afternoon at Citrus College.

After sweeping all 3 doubles points, the Cougars dropped only 1 singles match at No. 3 singles on a narrow 10-8 super tiebreaker after Kim Tran split the first 2 games with Jamie Chan, 6-3, 3-6.

The other 5 Azusa Pacific singles matches went in the Cougars’ favor in straight sets, led by Jennifer Dao’s 6-2, 6-1 win over Maria Resende at No. 1 singles. Bay Daniels, Peggy Bell, Jessalyn Lau and Lindsey Cloninger each added singles wins, and Katy Jelsma joined Cloninger at No. 3 doubles for an 8-1 win.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 11-1 overall, extending its winning streak to 8 matches, while Lewis-Clark State drops to 7-4 on the season. The Cougars return to GSAC play Saturday when they host Biola at 9 a.m.
