AZUSA, Calif. -- Senior Jennifer Dao led Azusa Pacific to an unprecedented 4 straight NAIA quarterfinals, and she was duly honored for her efforts, garnering her fourth straight selection to the NAIA All-American first team.
Dao played all season at No. 1 singles, where she posted a 17-3 record, and her doubles record with junior Kim Tran was 15-7, primarily at No. 2 doubles. Dao was also the Cougars’ lone All-GSAC recipient, but she was joined in receiving postseason honors by a trio of teammates.
Fellow senior Peggy Bell earned NAIA All-American honorable mention, and she was the Cougars’ lone recipient of the GSAC Scholar Athlete and Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards. Bell was a near-perfect 16-2 at No. 4 doubles for the Cougars, and she compiled a 17-4 record in doubles play with junior Bay Daniels.
Daniels and Tran earned NAIA All-American second team recognition, giving Azusa Pacific 3 representatives on the All-American first or second teams for the first time in program history. Daniels was 16-3 at No. 2 singles, and Tran posted a 12-9 record at No. 3 singles for the Cougars. It was Tran’s second consecutive NAIA All-American second team honor.
Azusa Pacific went 17-5 overall after winning 14 of its first 15 matches and finished third in the GSAC with a 7-2 conference record.
