SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 6-ranked Azusa Pacific posted its third shutout of the season with Saturday’s 9-0 road victory over Westmont Saturday.

The Cougars swept the 3 doubles matches by a combined 24-7 score, then won the top 5 singles contests in straight sets to go with sophomore Jessalyn Lau’s super tiebreaker win after splitting the first 2 sets at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 3-6 (10-3).

Senior Bay Daniels conceded just a single game between singles and doubles action, teaming up with freshman Sheryl Bon for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles before collecting a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Westmont’s No. 1 singles player Lauren Combs. Freshman Casey Wetzig followed suit at No. 2 singles, winning by a 6-2, 6-1 margin, and Bon was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 3 singles.

Senior Kim Tran and junior Lindsey Cloninger rounded out the singles wins in straight sets at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 6-1 overall, 3-0 in GSAC, while Westmont drops to 4-2 overall, 0-2 GSAC. The Cougars host Hope International Tuesday, Feb. 26, in a GSAC dual match originally scheduled to be played in Fullerton before a schedule conflict forced the match to move to Azusa Pacific’s home courts at Citrus College in Glendora.
