GLENDORA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 6-ranked Azusa Pacific posted its eighth straight victory with an 8-1 win over Concordia Wednesday afternoon at Citrus College.

The Cougars swept doubles for the fourth straight dual match and have now won 28 of the past 30 singles points over the last 5 contests.

Senior Kim Tran remained perfect in singles play on the season, improving to 10-0 on the year with a 6-1, 6-3 verdict over Jaleh Mazaheri at No. 4. All 10 of Tran’s wins have come in straight sets.

Junior Lindsey Cloninger added a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 5 position, extending her individual singles winning streak to 8 matches, and victories from senior Bay Daniels at No. 1 and freshman Casey Wetzig at No. 2 marked the fifth straight singles win for each.

Freshman Sheryl Bon won in straight sets for the sixth straight time with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Cristina Paiva at No. 3 singles.

The Cougars’ doubles sweep improved the team’s doubles record to 13-2 in GSAC matches this season. Tran and Wetzig combined for the largest doubles margin, posting an 8-1 win at No. 2. All 3 of Wednesday’s doubles tandems remained unbeaten on the season.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 9-1 overall, 5-0 GSAC, while Concordia drops to 4-4 overall, 2-3 GSAC. The Cougars host Alberta in non-conference action on Saturday, March 8, at 9 a.m. at Citrus College, before continuing GSAC play on Saturday, March 15 at home against Point Loma Nazarene.
