AZUSA, Calif. -- Construction has begun on the new home of Azusa Pacific tennis, an 8-court facility nestled between the Cougar Softball and Soccer Complexes on West Campus.
The courts are scheduled to open in January 2009, in time to host Azusa Pacific’s first intercollegiate contest at a true home court. In the past, home matches have been played at rented off-site community facilities, most recently a multi-year partnership with neighboring Citrus College.
The home opener is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m., when the Cougar men and women host Point Loma Nazarene in Golden State Athletic Conference action. The tentative 2009 schedule features 17 men’s and 13 women’s matches at the new facility, which includes an expanded slate of 8 men’s and 9 women’s conference matches.
Azusa Pacific University has secured gifts and pledges representing nearly 80 percent of the $1.1 million required for phase one, and is actively seeking the remaining funds. If you would like to discuss a gift to this milestone project for the athletics program, or learn more about the project, please contact the Office of University Advancement at (626) 815-5333 or development@apu.edu.
