AZUSA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 10-ranked Azusa Pacific made quick work of a short-handed Hope International squad, posting a 9-0 victory Monday afternoon at the Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex.
Junior Marie Tanaka extended her perfect season singles record to 5-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2, and sophomore Natalie McNall was victorious in the top positions in the singles and doubles lineup.
Hope International defaulted a singles and doubles match to give Azusa Pacific 2 quick points, and 8-0 doubles wins at the No. 1 (McNall and junior Sheryl Bon) and No. 2 (freshmen Sarita Adhikary and Danielle Hoyme) positions put the Cougars 1 singles victory away from clinching the match.
Azusa Pacific surrendered just 1 set in the 5 singles matches, getting 6-0, 6-0 victories from senior Jessalyn Lau (No. 3), Adhikary (No. 4) and Hoyme (No. 5). Adhikary and Hoyme are both now 2-0 in singles play this season.
With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in GSAC play, while Hope International drops to 0-8 overall, 0-7 GSAC. The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, March 10, visiting the NAIA’s No. 3-ranked Concordia in an important conference matchup.
