AZUSA, Calif.-- Azusa Pacific made it three in a row as the NAIA’s No. 7 ranked Cougars beat Hope International 9-0 on Saturday to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Azusa Pacific lost just a total of six games combined in singles play, although the teams competed in just five matches as the Royals didn’t have enough players to fill the draw.
In No. 1 singles Natalie McNall defeated Jasmin Zaragoza 6-2, 6-1, while Leah Hoffee swept Jeanette Rodriguez 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 position. Emily Harris posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Becca Roeser.
Nakieta Hein won 6-1, 6-0 over Alyssa Pritchett, while Danae Ingwaldson defeated Grace Marroquin 6-10, 6-0. Kim Koetterheinrich, who was slated to play in the No. 6 position won by default.
In doubles Hein and Harris went unscathed in an 8-0 win over Jasmin and Roeser, while McNall and Ruby defeated Rodriguez and Pritchett 8-1. Ingwaldson and Bethany Duval received a win by default.
The Cougars play four matches next week, starting with a road tilt at Concordia on Monday.
