AZUSA, Calif.-- Four the fourth time in the last five matches the NAIA’s 4th ranked Azusa Pacific swept it’s opponent, this time in a 9-0 defeat of Hope International (1-10, 1-8). The Cougars (11-1, 7-1) went unscathed in all but three matches on the day to notch their second 9-0 win over the Royals this season.
In No. 3 doubles Leah Hoffee and Kim Koetterheinrich opened with an 8-0 victory against Grace Marroquin and Mig Strelace-Accorsi just before Danae Ingwaldson and Emily Harris finished off Jasmin Zaragoza and Jeannette Rodriguez with an 8-0 win at No. 1. Molly Ruby, who played sick, teamed with Natalie McNall in the 2nd spot to give Azusa Pacific a 3-0 edge after doubles with an 8-1 win over Becca Roeser and Alyssa Pritchett.
In singles play Stephanie Quan sprinted to a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Sterlace-Accorsi at No. 6, while Bethany Duval improved to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Marroquin at No. 5 to clinch the team’s seventh straight win.
With the match in hand Koetterheinrich posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Pritchett at No. 4, while Nakieta Hein moved to 9-1 on the season after defeating Rodriguez 6-0, 6-1 in the 2nd postion. With her win the Cougars are a combined 12-0 at No. 2 singles this season. Ingwaldson tallied a sweep at No. 3, beating Roeser 6-0, 6-0 before McNall came away with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Zaragoza at No. 1 in the final match of the afternoon.
The Cougars get back on the courts tomorrow with a 1:30 p.m. contest against The Master’s at the Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex.
