AZUSA, Calif.-- The NAIA has released the brackets for the 2012 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships, and both teams will enjoy a first round bye before competing in their final NAIA tournament in Mobile, Ala. from May 15-19. The 4th ranked men (19-2) earned the No. 4 overall seed and join three other GSAC teams with an automatic draw into the second round.

The Cougar men will face the winner of No. 13 Aquinas (Mich.) and No. 20 Spring Arbor (Mich.) next Wednesday at 1 p.m. (CDT). Azusa Pacific went 7-2 against tournament teams this year with both losses coming against top-ranked Fresno Pacific.

The 5th ranked women (18-3) also join three other GSAC programs with an automatic draw to the second round, and will play either No. 21 Bethel (Kan.) or Shorter (Ga.) on Wednesday at 9 a.m. (CDT). The women went 6-2 against teams that qualified for the tournament, dropping a pair of heartbreakers to the No. 2 overall seed Fresno Pacific.

The men are making their 13th trip to the national championships, and have compiled a 25-11 record with one NAIA title at the tournament. The women’s appearance marks their 13th trip to the tournament, boasting a postseason record of 14-12.
