FRESNO, Calif.-- The Cougar women’s tennis team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end, falling to Fresno Pacific 6-3 on Monday. Azusa Pacific fell behind 2-1 after doubles, and lost four-of-six in singles action to see the Sunbirds extend their winning streak over the Cougars to 19 matches.
No. 17 ranked Emily Harris saw her impressive singles streak end at 24, losing to No. 16 Marie Boura 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1. Danae Ingwaldson fell 6-1, 6-0 to Petra Junova at No. 2, while Brejohn McCrary suffered a three-set loss (2-6, 6-1, 2-6) to Kat Paliivets at No. 3.
Kim Koetterheinrich collected a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Anna Mikhaylova to improve to 5-0 on the year, while Lindsey Yeom registered a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5. Erika Januskova beat Samantha Kaneta 6-4, 6-1 at No.4.
In doubles Yeom and Koetterheinrich tabbed the Cougars’ lone victory, cruising to an 8-3 win, while Harris and Ingwladson dropped a narrow 9-7 match at No. 1. Kaneta and McCrary lost 8-1 to Paliivets and Januskova in the second position.
The Cougars will have a chance to start another winning streak this weekend when they take on Cal State L.A. on Friday afternoon before hosting Western New Mexico on Saturday.
