AZUSA, Calif.-- A slow Azusa Pacific start was all Grand Canyon (Ariz.) needed in a 6-3 win over the Cougars on Saturday. Azusa Pacific fell behind 4-1 in singles play, and saw the Antelopes clinch the match when 26th ranked Priscialla Annoual recorded a thrilling 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over 17th ranked Emily Harris to end singles action.

The Cougars registered a pair of doubles win, but couldn’t dig themselves out of their early hole to fall to 10-3 this season. Brejohn McCrary tabbed the team’s only singles win, beating Justine Majan 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 3. Danae Ingwaldson lost to Katharina Mittag 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2, while Samantha Kaneta dropped a tough first set in a 7-6, 6-1 loss to Lana Macukat at No. 4.

Lindsey Yeom suffered a 6-4, 7-5 loss against Fred Van de Velde at No. 5, and Kim Koetterheinrich suffered her first defeat of the season in a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) loss to Jordan Bridges. In doubles the 10th ranked team of Harris and Ingwaldson sprinted to an 8-2 defeat of Majan and Annoual, before Kaneta and McCrary dropped a 9-8 (7-2) match at No. 2. Koetterheinrich and Yeom ended the afternoon with an 8-1 win at No. 3 for the duos’ ninth consecutive victory.

The Cougars will return to action on Monday when they make the short trek to Fullerton for a 2 p.m. match at Hope International.
