AZUSA, Calif.-- A day after recording a key victory over Fresno Pacific, the No. 13 ranked Cougar women’s tennis team posted its first sweep since Feb. 15th with a 9-0 win over Hawai’i Hilo Saturday. Azusa Pacific dropped just one set in the win, and didn’t give up a game in seven different sets.
Natalie Johnson and Emily Harris opened the day with an 8-0 win over Morissa Kahakui and Rachel Sugiyama, before Bethany Duval and Stephanie Quan registered an 8-2 victory against Shanise Kaaikala and Megan Fujikate at No. 3. Danae Ingwaldson and Lindsey Yeom then gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead with an 8-5 victory at No. 2.
Johnson grabbed the Cougars’ first singles win with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Chelsea Sato at No. 2, before Harris clinched Azusa Pacific’s victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Trixie Croad at No. 1, giving the Senior her fourth consecutive 10-win season.
Ingwaldson’s 6-4, 6-0 win put the Cougars ahead 6-0, while Yeom’s three-set victory over Kahakui at No. 4 made it a 7-0 match. Koetterheinrich posted a 6-1, 6-0 win against Fujikate at No. 5 before Duval closed out the day with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Kaaikala at No. 6.
The Cougars will return to action against Cal State L.A. on Monday, before closing the regular season with three straight home matches, the first of which against Point Loma on Friday.
