Azusa Pacific, which was ranked No. 17 in the final NAIA Coaches' Poll, sees it season come to an abrupt halt at 15-7.
The Saints, who are looking for their sixth NAIA title, swept all 3 doubles' matches to take a quick 3-0 lead, virtually deflating the Cougars' spirits. Then Jitka Schonfeldova stopped Eva Dvorakova, playing her final collegiate match, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1, Carolyn Kolzowski defeated Mayu Sato, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 and Alicia Graham handed Brianne Hahn just her third loss of the season, 6-0, 6-0, to clinch the win.
On a brighter note, Azusa Pacific received NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete Team recognition yesterday after posting a team GPA of 3.5 this year. Also, Laurel Buehler, Dvorakova and Patty Guinto each received individual Scholar Athlete honors.
