POMONA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 9-ranked Azusa Pacific won a pair of matches at the 2004 Xenia Anastasiadou Memorial Tournament on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona this weekend.

The Cougars defeated Grand Canyon (Ariz.), 8-1, Friday before knocking off NCAA Division I Northern Colorado, 6-3, Saturday.

With the wins, Azusa Pacific improves to 16-3 overall.

Jennifer Dao, Peggy Bell and Lynn Quitoriano won each of their matches over the weekend.

The annual tournament is a tribute to Anastasiadou, who was a former Cal Poly women’s tennis player that was killed in an automobile accident in 1989 at the age of 22. The former star was a 2-time NCAA individual champion and 3-time All-American as she led the Broncos to 3 straight third place finishes in the NCAA.
