AZUSA, Calif. -- Just hours removed from receiving its highest ranking in program history, the NAIA’s No. 4-ranked Azusa Pacific defeated local NCAA Division II rival Cal Poly Pomona, 7-2, in a non-conference match at the Citrus Tennis Complex.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 3-1 overall, while Cal Poly Pomona falls to 0-2.

The Cougars jumped out of the gate and took 2-of-3 doubles’ matches, winning at Nos. 1 and 2. They then needed to win just half of the singles’ matches but went on to win 5-of-6. Jennifer Dao knocked off Dehlia Feliz (6-4, 7-5) at No. 1 as the Cougars won 4 matches in straight sets.

Azusa Pacific, which last year received its highest ranking at No. 7 in the final NAIA Coaches’ Poll, advanced all the way to the NAIA title match before falling to Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.).
