SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The NAIA’s No. 4-ranked Azusa Pacific rebounding from a 2-game losing skid to upend No. 18 Westmont, 7-2, in GSAC women’s tennis action Tuesday in Santa Barbara.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 14-4 overall, 9-1 GSAC. Westmont falls to 12-8, 5-5.

The Cougars quickly put the Warriors in a deep hole, sweeping all 3 doubles’ matches. The Cougars gave up just 4 points in the 3 matches combined to cruise to a quick 3-0 lead. Then in singles’ play, the Cougars picked up 4 more points, winning at No. 1, 4, 5 and 6, all in straight sets.

Westmont picked up its lone points from Masako Horino (No. 2) and Lorelei Belindean (No. 3), but they were unable to muster much of a fight in the other matches. Both Lynn Quitoriano (No. 5) and Christiana Scolinos (No. 6) picked up wins against against their former teammates.

The race for the GSAC title now comes down to Friday’s match vs. No. 2 Vanguard. The Lions defeated the Cougars, 7-2, back in February in Costa Mesa. The match begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Citrus Tennis Complex at Citrus College.
