Daniels Leads Cougars

Sun., Feb. 5, 2006

AZUSA, Calif. -- After opening the season with a convincing victory over Claremont things continued to go smoothly for Azusa Pacific against another highly touted opponent.

Behind the strong play of Bay Daniels, the Cougars defeated UC San Diego for the first time in program history, 7-2, to improve to 2-0 on the young season. Head coach Mark Bohren is already pleased with how his team has come out of the gate swinging.

“This is our second straight really strong performance and for being so early in the season we looked really good,” said Bohren. “This is the first time we’ve beaten UCSD, which is a top-10 NCAA Division II school. Bay had a really solid day in both singles and doubles.”

Daniels teamed with Jennifer Dao and, together, they crushed the duo of Marsha Malinow and Marissa Hilker, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles. Last season, Dao and Daniels partnered as the top doubles squad 13 times and posted an 8-5 dual match record. This season they are off to a 2-0 start.

In her singles match, Daniels made quick work of Katie McKee, 6-1, 6-3. The win sparked another dominating performance by the Cougars who captured 5 of the 6 singles matches.
