Mustangs Swept Aside

Wed., Feb. 15, 2006

AZUSA, Calif. -- After a disappointing setback at Fresno Pacific at the beginning of the week, the NAIA’s No. 5-ranked Azusa Pacific took its frustrations out on The Master’s, winning 9-0 over an opponent for the first time this season.

Kim Tran played at No. 1 singles for the first time this season and looked every bit the part as she brushed aside Hannah Leake, 6-0, 6-0. The Cougars shuffled their ladder to give the Mustangs a different look and it paid dividends.

“The girls played hard and they were focused for the entire match which was nice to see,” said head coach Mark Bohren.

In her first singles match of the season, freshman Lindsey Cloninger was dominant beating Kate Gregory, 6-1, 6-0.

With the victory, Azusa Pacific improves to 4-2. It will next travel to Hope International for a conference match on Feb. 21.
