Daniels Shines at Ojai

OJAI, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific’s Bay Daniels worked her way into the quarterfinals of the Ojai Tournament before losing a close match, 6-3, 7-6, to Andrea Montoya.

Playing well against the quality competition that the tournament features, Daniels won 3 matches as she reached worked her way through the competition. She put together a dominating performance against her first round opponent, beating Brittany Beihl, 6-0, 6-0.

She played equally as well in the second round winning 1 and 1. Another straight set win boosted Daniels into the quarterfinals.

Katy Jelsma had to withdraw from her first round match after an injury prevented her from continuing after a concluded second set.

Both doubles teams that Azusa Pacific sent to the tournament did not make it past their first matches. Daniels and Jelsma were unable to play their match while Peggy Bell and Raquel Gottfried dropped a 3-set match.

Next up for the Cougars is the Region II championships beginning Thursday, May 4.
