Dao, Tran are All-Americans

Tue., May 30, 2006

AZUSA, Calif. -- For their integral roles in helping Azusa Pacific advance to the semi-finals of the NAIA Championship tournament, Jennifer Dao and Kim Tran were named All-Americans.

Dao was tabbed as a first teamer for the third consecutive year while newcomer Tran earned second team honors in her first year as a Cougar.

Dao joined Boris Bakalov as Azusa Pacific players with 3 first team selections. She will return for her senior season in 2007 looking to become the first women’s tennis player to be picked 4 times.

Tran was a stalwart at No. 3 singles and was a key reason why the Cougars reached the national semis. A transfer from UC Riverside, she boosted the depth of the squad and team with Dao to form a potent combination at No. 1 doubles.

Meanwhile, Peggy Bell was tabbed as a 2006 Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athlete for her academic work. Bell, a junior, is majoring in accounting.

“They both played very well this year as did our entire team,” said head coach Mark Bohren. “I’m proud of their accomplishments this season.”

Azusa Pacific finished the campaign with a record of 21-6.
