THIS YEAR: A developing hurdler, sophomore Ian Chessum has a year of collegiate competition under his belt that should allow him to play a more significant role in the Cougars’ pursuit of an unprecedented 11th straight GSAC championship … Will compete in both the high and intermediate hurdles, but is stronger in the longer races.
2008 (freshman): Competed in both the indoor and outdoor seasons as a 2008 freshman … Advanced to the finals of the GSAC 400-meter hurdles race, finishing eighth with a 59.80 (clocked a 59.25 in the prelims) … Also clocked a personal-best 16.07 in the GSAC 110 highs … Toyed with the javelin and finished sixth at the GSAC meet with a throw of 149’ 4”.
HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered in both track & field and football (receiver) at Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta, Calif. ... As a 2007 senior named all-area in track & field and was voted the Falcons’ top sprinter and hurdler ... At the Pacific League championships in Arcadia, finished third in the 110 high hurdles (15.50) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (43.41) ... Clocked a 15.82 in the high hurdles at the CIF qualifier.

Has 3 sisters (Jessica who ran track & field at Azusa Pacific, Lindsey who plays basketball at Westmont, and Candice, freshman on the Cougar track & field team) ... Has not declared a major ... Enjoys surfing, carpentry and the harmonica.
