THIS YEAR: Another emerging star in a long line of outstanding decathletes at Azusa Pacific, sophomore Casey Stevick ill press for the NAIA championships in the heptatathlon (indoor) and decathlon (outdoor) ... Excel's in the javelin and may qualify for the open event at the NAIAs ... Rated solid in the running events and is expected to display significant improvement in the throws as he gets stronger.
2008 (freshman): Enjoyed a fine 2008 freshman season in which he served notice of his presence on the college scene by capturing All-America honors at the NAIA Indoor Championships with a fifth-place finish in the heptathlon (4,898) ... Finished eighth in the decathlon (6,298) at the outdoor championships ... Tallied a personal best 6,488 in the decathlon at the California Invitational Decathlon ... Topped the team with a season-best throw of 187' 2” in the javelin during the NAIA decathlon ... At the GSAC Championships, scored in the 110 hurdles, high jump, long jump and won the javelin (182' 0”).
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 3-sport standout at Olympia (Wash.) High where as a 2007 senior at the state 4A meet he finished fourth in the high jump (6' 6”), sixth in the 100 hurdles (15.12) and long jump (21' 1”) ... Was a 2-time state decathlon champion for his age group, winning the 2007 crown with a personal-best score of 6,007 points ... Also had a personal best of 169' in the javelin ... Earned 2 varsity letters in basketball (forward) and 3 in tennis ... Was a member of the national honor society.
PERSONAL: Born Sept. 2, 1988, in Palo Alto, Calif. ... Parents are Drew (surgeon) and Wendy Stevick ... Has 2 brothers (Jesse, Joe) and 2 sisters (Cassidy, Autumn) ... His dad was the 1970 NAIA javelin champion (241' 6”) while at Whitworth College and later was the founder of the Barron Park Striders, a youth track club in Washington ... His brother Jesse was a decathlete at Whitworth and is currently an accomplished marathoner ... His brother Joe was a 3-time NAIA All-American at Westmont College ... Majoring in chemistry ... Has made summer mission trips to Guatemala and Mexico ... Enjoys playing ping pong.
