THIS YEAR: Available only for the outdoor season, senior Jason Zichterman teams with Caleb Lynch to give Azusa Pacific a strong presence in the half mile … Will press for All-American honors in the 800 … Plays a vital role in the Cougars’ chase for a sixth straight 4x800 NAIA title.

2007: In his first season at Azusa Pacific, garnered 5 NAIA All-America honors between the indoor and outdoor seasons … Was a key in Azusa Pacific winning the NAIA indoor championship by finishing fourth in the 600 (1:19.95 — the fourth fastest in program history) and then running legs on the Cougars’ 4x400 and 4x800 that finished sixth and third, respectively … At the outdoor championships, was sixth in the 800 (1:52.12) and was a member of the NAIA championship 4x800 … Clocked the sixth fastest 800 (1:51.32) during the NAIA prelims … Won the GSAC 800 (1:55.08) title … Also recorded a 48.99 in the 400 at the Claremont Classic.

COLORADO: Ran 3 seasons of track & field at the University of Colorado ... Had to overcome a pair of arthroscopic knee surgeries during his sophomore and junior seasons ... Posted career-bests of 1:50.18 in the 800 and 48.52 in the 400 during his 2004 freshman campaign ... Qualified for the NCAA regional meet in both the open 800 and the 4x400 relay ... Clocked an indoor 800 best of 1:50.32 while finishing third at the 2005 Big 12 Championships.

HIGH SCHOOL: Ran 4 seasons of track for head coach Bob Howard at Gunnison (Colo.) High where as a 2003 senior he teamed with current Cougar Matt Sparks to lead the Cowboys to the state 3A championship ... Was a 5-time state champion between the 400, 800, 4x400 and 4x800 and a 9-time all-state honoree ... In cross country, twice finished tenth in the state championship meet ... Also earned 2 varsity letters in basketball.

PERSONAL: Born Jan. 7, 1985, in Estes Park, Colo. … Parents are Phil and Jean Zichterman, both of whom work with U.S. National Park Service ... Has a younger brother (Patrick) ... Majoring in political science.
