SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Azusa Pacific men's and women's track & field teams opened up outdoor season with fifth-place finishes at the Point Loma Nazarene Collegiate Scoring Meet Saturday in San Diego.

Matt Rau registered a personal-best 6,187 points to edge Point Loma's Anthony Viola by 10 points for the decathlon win. Rau's previous personal-record was 6,084 points at last year's Golden State Athletic Conference championship meet. His performance led the way for the Cougar men, who scored 132.5 team points to finish in the top half of the 10 teams involved in the meet.

The women's team, which scored 149.5 points to also claim fifth place in a 10-team field, was led by individual event winners Breanna Leslie (110-meter hurdles and high jump), Jordan Robusto (hammer throw), and a 4 x 100 meter relay team that clocked a 48.55 to finish second in the relay behind Cal State San Marcos.

The Cougars are scheduled to compete next week at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Twilight Open in a busy outdoor season which features home meets that include the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 20) and the 2012 GSAC Championships (April 26-27).
