THIS YEAR: Freshman Nicole Wandler provides Azusa Pacific some much-needed depth at setter … Will provide future depth at the position as she learns the ins and outs of the Cougar system and the collegiate game.

HIGH SCHOOL: Starred in 3 sports at Woodland (Calif.) Christian High, playing 4 seasons each of volleyball, basketball and soccer … Helped lead the Cardinal volleyball program to a 4-year record of 128-22 under head coach Mark Perkins … Was a 3-time all-league first team selection, earning Central Valley Christian League MVP honors as a 2006 senior … Was the state’s assist leader with 981 and led the Cardinals to the CIF Division V state finals as a 2005 junior … Was also a 3-time all-league first team goalkeeper for the Cardinal soccer team, and twice was named all-league basketball first team.

PERSONAL: Born Sept. 25, 1988, in Anaheim Hills, Calif., to Joel and Donna Wandler … Has 1 older sister (Shannon), who was a women’s soccer goalkeeper for The Master’s College … Her father, Joel, tended goal at GSAC rival Biola from 1979-81… Majoring in physical therapy and would like to work with injured athletes … Enjoys playing basketball and beach volleyball.
