Ralph Rivas is in his second stint with Azusa Pacific, and his ninth year as an assistant for the Cougar volleyball program. He coached with Azusa Pacific from 2001-2004, and returned in 2009 and has been with the program ever since.
Rivas' coaching resume dates back to 1993, where he coached at Maranatha High School from 1993-1999, and again from 2004-2008. His connections with Maranatha run deep, where he hosted volleyball camps for 18 years. Rivas was also an accomplished club coach from 1994 to 2006, coaching multiple club teams each season between the 14 and 18 divisions, at one point guiding his team to six consecutive junior national appearances.
Rivas received his bachelor's degree in Christian Ministry in 2003 from Facultad de Teologia, and his Masters in Pastoral Studies at Azusa Pacific ('12). He and his wife, Debbie, were married in 1976, and the couple resides in El Monte. They have four daughters and six grand kids. His daughters, Kerri Rivas ('99) and Melanie Rivas ('04) played volleyball at Azusa Pacific.
