AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific wasn't about to become the first victim. That's for another day and another team. Therefore, the NAIA's No. 16-ranked Cougars took care of business in quick fashion, defeating GSAC rival Concordia in 3 games -- 30-22, 30-19, 30-19 -- to push their winning streak to 3 straight while keeping Concordia winless in conference play.
For the seventh time in 13 matches this season sophomore Maria Abaca led the Cougars' offensive attack with a team-high 10 kills. All-American Jenna Sagehorn also chipped in with 10 kills to go along with a match-high 12 digs.
Azusa Pacific had this match in control from the outset, jumping out to a 9-2 lead in the opening game. Other than a brief 1-0 lead in the second game and a short-lived 4-3 advantage in the third game, Concordia never held the upper hand on the Cougars during the match. Azusa Pacific used a 16-6 run midway through the third game to assure the sweep.
With the victory, Azusa Pacific, which has now won 7 of the past 9 meetings with Concordia, improves to 9-4 overall, 4-2 in the GSAC. Concordia falls to 9-10 overall, 0-6 in the GSAC.
